I have a lump on top of my head this morning. It was placed there as a result of my daft approach to living. You know what I'm talking about. The idiosyncrasies we each exhibit in our relationships that often run roughshod over commonsense and create division are life-draining. Yesterday, my loving wife mentioned something that struck at the core of my daftness. The topic of conversation was 'communication' in marriage and she said, "Thank goodness for Google calendar." Then 'it' hit me. I don't communicate well or enough with Tracie. I rely too much on an 'online' electronic communicator to apprise her of my whereabouts. Sad....

If my wife has to summon an online calendar to determine whether she should start dinnner or wait, then I deserve the (figurative) throbbing pain on top of my skull. When a couple is growing in grace and they are invested in each other, communication is that which connects their hearts and minds. Genuine intimacy occurs and relationships strengthen. The outcome should be one that allows love to flourish and guesswork to be eliminated.

Our relationship with God is similar in that daily interaction with the Creator allows growth in the relationship. Too often, we neglect the daily discourse and rely on the old "flying by the seat of my pants" kind of communication. We rationalize. Surely God knows how busy I am. Or worse, we blame God for our situation and openly ignore the Almighty.

This morning should be the start of a new course of action for us who claim Christ as Lord. Let's spend some time with Holy scripture. It is God revealing the nature of the Divine to us. Yes, even in books like Leviticus and Jude. Let's ask God for a refreshing of the Holy Spirit so we can communicate and understand the maker and lover of our soul. Avoiding the figurative lump on top of our heads should not be the driving motivation for investing in God's word. A renewed and vibrant relationship of love and grace should be the gift we pursue.
