Remember Who You Are!

That poignant scene from the "Lion King" where the spirit of Mufasa tells Simba, "Remember who you are." is such a good reminder for all of us. 'Dontcha' think? Our son graduated from the Porsche apprenticeship program yesterday and as I walked the halls of the facility, I came across this poster.

Obviously, these cars are known for speed and handling. I mean, come on, if I can go from 0-60 in under four seconds....(go ahead, count that out in your head) "One thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand 60 Miles an hour!! While you're wrapping your mind around that, I'm going to go find fresh undergarments. This auto brand is known for one thing. They go fast!

Followers of Jesus should be known for one thing. Spiritually, we should never stray too far from godly love. Love that holds no conditions and looks for ways to serve another person should be at the core of our spiritual DNA.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35, NIV)

I'm no expert when it comes to this kind of self-sacrificing kind of love, but I can learn things from 1 Corinthains 13. Often, this text is shared at weddings. It is better served to be read daily by those of us who identify as "Christian". Love is:

1. patient.

2. kind.

3. not envious.

4. not boastful.

5. not proud. 6. not rude.

7. not self-seeking

8. not easily angered

9. no recorder of wrongs. 10. not willing to delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 11. always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 12. never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8, NIV)

Not likely that I'll ever own a Porsche, but it is a daily reality that I consider myself a follower of Jesus. Let nobody ever look at me and think, "Is he really a follower of Jesus? I don't see the evidence of godly love in his life." Let God's love be your spiritual DNA today and every day.
