We all want to be comfortable.

Okay, so these aren't the most stylish socks I own, but they are the most warm and comfortable ones in my sock drawer. Since October arrived, cooler temps have crept into our area and what was a comfortably cool house has become cold. The hardwood and slate floors, while beautiful, don't feel so inviting first thing in the morning. It is time to don my 'cabin socks'! Thick soft cushiony socks that feel like you are walking on cotton really do the trick.

It seems to me that humanity as a whole desires to be comfortable. We like what we like and will do whatever we can to get those things. Are we too hot? Air conditioning! Are we too cold? Heating! Are we too fearful? Security systems! And on, and on, and on.....

Have you considered your comfort in knowing God loves you and desires to walk with you through life? It is true. A creative God formed humanity, placed the image of the Holy Trinity within us and allowed us to choose what we want. In doing so, God expressed divine love and chose not to impose His will on our autonomy.

On our best day, we fall flat on our face due to sin and yet, God still pursues our hearts and desires our fellowship. He wants us to be comfortable and cared for...and offers us Jesus Christ on our behalf. When we admit our sin and ask forgiveness, God's reply is always, "Jesus." When Jesus is allowed into our hearts, he brings with him an amazing advocate. The Holy Spirit is one who teaches us, one who helps us, who speaks on our behalf, who loves and cares for us, and one who comforts us.

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach

you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

(John 14:26, KJV)

If you are feeling lonely and separated from your heavenly Father, it is easy to renew that sense of closeness again. When you finish this post, close your eyes, inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Utter these words,

"Eternal God, you are amazing and your love for me is comforting. I am struggling. I have tried to

find comfort on my own and it isn't really very comfortable where I am. I need you. I am ready to

allow you full access to my heart and mind. Give me Jesus in overflowing measure. He is my Lord

and I want to serve Him. I want you to refresh me with your Spirit again. I want the comfort He

brings. I offer my heart and mind to you and allow your grace to permeate my cold soul. Wrap me

in the assurance of your love and comfort me in this time of renewal. Amen."
