Weebles wobble.

I'm telling my age here, but do you remember these adorable toys?

Weebles were / are treasures in that you can't knock them over permanently. Oh sure, you can actually knock them over but they bounce right back time after time. There is an interesting principle involved here. The Weebles have a heavy foundation (weighted) and so they are never top-heavy. Go ahead, knock one over and see what happens....

Boink....the Weeble wobbles and spins and then comes back to an upright position. Hmmm, I think these little toys that have delighted children for years could teach us something about our faith journey. Here is our archetype.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for

fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he

showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said,

“Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them

and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:19-22, NIV)

Jesus, the second person of the Trinity and Son of God came to live in a human body. He lived and died. But....he didn't stay dead. God's power and plan for humanity includes resurrection and that's good news for us. We have an anchor that feeds our soul and he is Jesus. Our foundation of faith keeps us upright even when everything around us is trying to knock us off our feet.

Jesus is a weeble long before anyone designed the adorable toy. We who call Jesus our Savior have that same dynamic. The world will knock us over and life in a fallen world can hurt. Thank God for the promises of Romans 8:38-39.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the

future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to

separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39, NIV)

The next time you are pummeled by a catastophic life event, hold onto your faith and trust that God is working in the midst of your turmoil. For that I am absolutely sure. You will rebound!
