- "A Musing Pastor"
Armed for Battle.
Had the pleasure of watching the movie, War Room yesterday. All the trailers and promotional ads gave me the impression the movie would be about soldiers in battle and how generals and admirals would plot strategies and realize victories...
Yep, I misinterpreted those promos.
The movie portrays everyday occurrences of a family caught in the vice of success and lethargy. The Jordan's are christian in name only and go through the motions ocassionally. Priorities are found in an expansive home, getting bonus checks, and appearing upwardly mobile.
Throughout the early part of the movie, one begins to see how the Jordan's house of cards cannot sustain their ambitions. Their daughter is almost a forgotten entity, especially from the father's perspective.
Enter Miss Clara (A prayer warrior).
Have you invested your life in mission to another person? Miss Clara did.
And so the movie journeys through marital discord, a lapse of judment in integrity, a lost job with possible arrest looming, and the subsequent interaction between Miss Clara and Mrs. Jordan.
Miss Clara decided early on in her widowed life to commit to pray daily and even went so far as transforming an old walk in closet into her prayer room (War Room).
You see folks, whether you understand it or not, we are engaged in spiritual warfare. The apostle Paul understood our reality and encouraged believers to be ready and vigilant to stand firm in their faith and exercise their duties as a soldier. Given the propensity of dysfunction in our world, it would appear that Satan is winning the day...."not so fast Robin"
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against
the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore
put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you
can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Eph 6:19 Pray also
for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known
the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly,
as I should. (Ephesians 6:12-20, NIV)
Last I heard, there are women and men dedicated to Jesus Christ and who are willing to bend their knees in prayer. There are women and men who think their faith in God is bolstered through their love and care of their neighbors. There are still women and men who understand the great need to mentor younger folk and share knowledge and wisdom.
How about you, do you have a prayer warrior's heart and a place where you can go to kneel before the Almighty? Do you put on the armor of God daily and go to battle on behalf of another soul?
Well soldier? Do you or don't you? If so, then you are a viable believer making a profound difference in God's kingdom. If not, then you are a prime target for Satan.
