No Day Wasted
Ahhh, Saturdays!! For many it is a day to sleep in. No work! No school! For teenagers, who spent all night online playing video games, they never see Saturday. (**insert smiley face here) Still others prep for the big game and get ready to tailgate and enjoy a day away from responsibilities. Overall, I like Saturdays. I was born on a Saturday. So, what do you do on Saturdays? Reading? Cooking? Cleaning? Traveling? Shopping? Little as possible? Maybe you're one of the less fortunate who actually have to work on Saturday. Sorry about that.
No day wasted has become a mantra that I have borrowed from an acquaintance I met while doing a Tough Mudder in Coatsville. Jim Campbell, who doctors said would never walk again, beat the odds and persevered through countless surgerys, therapies, and treatments. He used the phrase, "NO DAY WASTED" as his motivation for fighting through adversity. Today, Jim has completed over 100 Tough Mudders and is the leading spokesperson for Tough Mudder.

No day wasted for me is finding ways to use what gifts God has given me to lift and bless someone else who needs help. There is a Saturday fast approaching where you'll find me somewhere in Mifflin county working on a total stranger's house or yard. Yep, Saturday September 22, I will join with many other volunteers (hopefully many) to tackle some home improvement projects left over from our 3rd annual Week of Caring mission week.
What? Who would sacrifice a coveted day away from work, responsibilities, cleaning, etc to go work on someone else's property. Yes, well I said I was born on a Saturday. I also fell nearly 200 bajillion times and hit my head about 100 bajillion of those while growing up. (apparently spell check does not like the word 'bajillion')
I can still hear my mother's voice saying two things. Randy, please don't run and fall. Your head can't take too many more hits. The other saying was something mom heard from a 19th century poem.
Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace, Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go, Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living, But the child who is born on the Sabbath day, Is lucky and happy and good and gay.
(Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, published 1913 by G. & C. Merriam Co.)
Mom, why of all days did you give me life on a Saturday. Why couldn't it have been Monday, Tuesday, Friday, or the Sabbath. Oh wait, I could have been born on a Wednesday or Thursday....... Oh, well, No Day Wasted still rings true!
It appears I was destined to work, work, work and I'm okay with that. I need to be doing something. I could never envision my life consumed by doing little or nothing on a daily basis. I should probably implode if that were the case. So, all that being said, Saturday September 22, I will be pulling into the Milroy United Methodist Church parking lot at ZERO 6:45 to enjoy a breakfast, then gather some tools and some friends to tackle work that only some will understand.
Maybe you were born on a Saturday and or you love to be creative and productive. Sweet! Maybe you should consider joining with other like-minded folks and we'll all go bless someone living in Mifflin county on this day. Maybe you would consider claiming that mantra of "No Day Wasted" as your own reason for being productive in God's kingdom. Maybe I'll see you in a couple weeks. Yes? Hope so.
"A Musing Pastor" wasting no days.....
PS: Maybe you should (after reading this drivel) share it with someone else in your email contacts.
