Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest...?

August 5, 2015

It can be frightening to look into a mirror early in the morning. Wow, I must be going on a trip. I have bags under my eyes.  I can chuckle a little when I look at my haggard features and yet I also want people to see Jesus and come to know Him through me. This is less about my facial features and more about my heart and mind.

2Corinthians 3:18 "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being

transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the

        Spirit." (NIV)

In order for my countenance to reflect Christ, I must know His features and learn of His ways. I can only know Christ through a daily reading of the Bible. I need to be engaged in small group studies and then be involved in applying what I have learned into an area of ministry.  As my 'head' knowledge of Christ increases, my heart knowledge must keep pace.  This dual transformation is the work of God.

Ultimately, I want to reflect Christ and offer people an image of Christ they may have never experienced (A new perspective, a different angle, fresh images of grace and mercy). It seems to follow in scripture that Jesus never did what was expected. He never said or did what people wanted Him to say or do. His heart and mind were designed and guided by His Father God. He listened intently to God and chose to obey.

Obeying God and being Christlike do not come naturally to us and so we must have the Holy Spirit in order for Christ's image to be seen. Allowing God to reform our hearts and minds develops an image of Christ that is inviting. People will be drawn to Jesus because of our face not in spite of it (The difference between cheerful face rather than an angry scowl).  ...and the answer is, "The Lord is the fairest of them al!"
