Every morning, I walk through the house on my way to the kitchen to ...."SQUIRREL!!"
I do tend to be easily distracted and led away from more important things. How about you, do extraneous influences derail your purpose? If God has blessed and gifted you, are you able to be fruitful and produce a good result? SQUIRREL!!!
The squirrels outside our house are discovering acorns and busily digging holes everywhere in order to bury them for a later meal. Some reasearch has revealed an unusual outcome for the squirrels. They bury so many seeds and nuts and rarely ever find and retrieve every buried treasure. Is their problem one of forgetfulness or do they plan for the unexpected? Researchers tend to think squirrels over-hide food so that even if they never rediscover a large portion of their food, they will still be able to survive on that which they do find. A side benefit for us is that unfound seeds and acorns if left undisturbed will grow into new trees and plants.
In Matthew 28, Jesus was about to return to His heavenly Father and gave His disciples this command.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20, NIV)
These verses sound a lot like planting seeds. Go and tell everyone you meet about Jesus Christ. Plant the seed of hope into every heart. If you never meet the person ever again, you will have given them a treasure. If you continue to walk with them and nurture the seeds planted, you might experience their growth into a viable follower of Jesus. In either case, you will have been faithful to go and spread the Good News.
I need to go get ready for church so I will talk to.....SQUIRREL!!
