I've always marveled when folks have seen the face of Jesus in a spilled ice-cream cone or seen his countenance in a cloud. What theological significance is there in these anecdotal accounts? Perhaps, a person in distress or other challenging situation might need a sign from the Lord. No one can know why these phenomenon occur. I am a bit skeptical that any credible importance can be placed on them. I am also a grumpy old pastor that believes the Holy Bible gives a more clear picture of Jesus. Strolling through the pages of Old and New Testaments portray a God that cannot be described. We run out of words. The Bible also helps me understand God through the person of Jesus Christ.
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." (Colossians 1:15, NIV)
Take for instance, this image (screenshot) of my run this afternoon. I clearly see ET. (You remember the Extra Terrestrial. Right?) Didn't plan it. But there he is!
As a test, I asked my wife what she saw and she said, "I see Barney Rubble's dog Hoppy." Clearly, she needs glasses.
So, what do you see in this image? Better question, what do you see in the Bible that gives you hope in Christ and the God who has given you life. Consider the Gospels and begin to write down all the descriptive words that build an image of Jesus. In compiling this list, you begin to create a growing understanding about God.
Shoot me an email, or message me on Facebook and offer a few insights on scriptures that help you understand God.
PS: I'll have to map out my next run to look like Scooby Doo. Stay tuned.
