Seasons come and seasons go

May 9, 2016

My head feels like somebody placed it in a vice and began to turn the crank... STOP! STOP! I think stuff came out my nose.....

Ugh, this time of the year with all of its pollen and airborne  gunk always seems to wreak havoc on my sinuses. For the last 3 and half weeks I have had a headache. As soon as I medicate with sinus congestion meds, the pressure subsides and the headache goes away. I keep telling myself the season for pollen and airborne gunk is going to end soon.

(This is me during pollen season) [Probably you too]

Unlike the grump cat, when asked how I am doing, I respond with a hearty, "good!" I do so because I believe the season of headaches will end and a new season of breathing joy will begin. Please tell me I'm not the only one who suffers from seasonal allergy stuff.

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:" (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)

As I rolled the scripture from Ecclesiastes over in my mind, I pondered how some issues in life never seem to get better. Chronic illness plagues our health, grief plagues our emotions, and fear plagues our spirituality. While we would hope these impediments would have a season and then end, they tend to be carried alongside of us by an invisible hand.  Human nature tends to look at life struggles as ongoing inescapable prisons. In a large number of cases, those prisons are self-fabricated. Our eyes are focused a bit too low. It's time to begin looking up.

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated

at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and

your life is now hidden with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:1-3, NIV)

If you are experiencing an unending season of confusion and suffering then I leave you with some work to do. Copy this link into your browser and watch the music video "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again" by Danny Gokey. It may be the most important thing you do today.

Look intently for the new season of life that God wants to give you. It's there.
